About us

A small church that takes the Bible at its word.

No denominational headquarters, no committee deciding what we may preach. Just a congregation on Greenland Road, an open Bible, and the ordinary work of following Christ together.

Our church

Ontonagon Baptist Church is an independent Baptist church. We are not part of any denominational organization, and everything we believe and teach comes solely from the Word of God. We strive to teach and live biblical Christianity every day.

We are a small church on Greenland Road, at the edge of town — white siding, a blue cross on the gable, and a lot of sky behind it. The building holds a congregation that knows each other's names. If you come twice, someone will remember yours.

Pastor Virgil Ruchti

Serving Ontonagon Baptist since October 2020

Pastor Virgil Ruchti has been serving at Ontonagon Baptist Church since October of 2020. He grew up in rural Minnesota; his wife Cynthia grew up in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.

He graduated from Ambassador Baptist College in Lattimore, North Carolina in December of 2013, and served as assistant pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Willmar, Minnesota from November 2017 until he took God's call to come to Ontonagon.

He and Cynthia met at Bible college in 2012 and were married in 2014. They have been blessed with children who fill up a pew of their own.

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Matthew 28:20

The rest is easier said in person.
